Running Around The World: Why Exploring New Countries Is the Best Workout Ever!

Read Time:5 Minute, 40 Second
In the late 1970s, I was assigned to the Division Artillery for the 3rd Infantry Division in Kitzingen, Germany, where I served as my first official duty station of my military career. This was the first foreign country in which I ran. There, I developed an affection for running and the sensation of liberation it instilled in me. The realization that I enjoyed running and observing the picturesque countryside and historic sites was a result of my time spent jogging on and off base. It aids in the maintenance of physical fitness and the clearing of my mind. From this location, I was fully engrossed in the realm of recreational running, and I have not looked back since. I have developed a genuine enthusiasm for it. Experiencing the local culture and scenery through running in new countries offers a distinctive perspective that cannot be replicated elsewhere. You will have the chance to explore the natural majesty of unfamiliar landscapes, encounter diverse running routes, and uncover hidden gems far from the beaten path. Running in new countries can also introduce you to individuals from diverse backgrounds who share similar interests, thereby nurturing connections and friendships that transcend geographical boundaries. It presents a mental and emotional challenge in addition to a physical one, encouraging you to embrace new experiences and venture outside of your comfort zone. Exploring the world through running provides an unparalleled sense of accomplishment and fulfillment, leaving you with cherished memories and stories to savor for all of your life. To embark on a transformative voyage around the world, simply lace up your sneakers, hit the pavement, and let running guide you.
1. New Scenery: In reality, Korea boasted the most jaw-dropping scenery one could ever imagine. My most memorable jogging experience was there, with the fresh air and gorgeous mountains as a backdrop. Running in a new place might be a great way to switch things up and get your blood pumping, but not every place on Earth can compare to the breathtaking beauty and grandeur of Korea's terrain. Every jogging experience is one-of-a-kind since every location has its own distinct allure. Picture the excitement of exploring a wide variety of environments, from bustling city streets to peaceful countryside, and from majestic mountains to peaceful beaches. Running in these new environments can be a refreshing change of pace and a great way to get your blood pumping.
2. New Challenges: When you run in a new place, you may face fresh obstacles that force you out of your comfort zone and challenge your mental and physical strengths. Becoming a stronger and more resilient runner is possible through conquering challenges, such as running on unfamiliar terrain, enduring varied weather conditions, or adapting to different elevations. At an average daily high of more than 105°F, Kuwait City was the most difficult place I've ever been. On base, temperatures averaged 120°F when I arrived in April 2007. I had to endure the excruciating heat while I took my first PT test when I worked for Combat Support Associates Kuwait. (CSA)
3. Cultural Immersion: One of the best things about running in a new city is the opportunity it gives you to really embrace the local way of life. As you travel, you can meet natives, learn about their culture, and take in the sights, sounds, and smells of a new place. You may learn about other cultures and ways of life and develop a greater sense of gratitude for the environment around you. I learned that sticking to a fitness regimen was the norm in Angeles City, Philippines. The fact that I could run alongside so many individuals and have random conversations about life was a pleasant surprise. Being bilingual was not an issue because the majority of Filipinos spoke both Tagalog and English.
4. Personal Growth: Traveling to run in new destinations can also be a journey of personal growth and self-discovery. It has the potential to motivate you to explore new things, try different things, and be open to new experiences. One of the benefits of pushing oneself to your mental and physical limits in unfamiliar environments is the possibility of unearthing latent talents. Actually, it was in 1985 in Portland, Oregon, USA, when I ran my first marathon. Despite my fears and doubts, I was able to overcome them with the help of my fellow runners and the cheers of the crowd. I was captivated from the time I crossed the finish line, since the sensation was completely new to me. Running marathons in different countries has taught me the importance of resilience, determination, and perseverance. I've been able to meet individuals from many walks of life and develop friendships with them that go beyond just differences in culture and language. Running has provided me with many chances for personal development, and for that I am eternally thankful. My only comment is that I beat out my fellow Fort Lewis, Washington, soldiers to the finish line of the run. It was a remarkable illustration of self-improvement.
5. Memorable Experiences: The memories and experiences you create while running in new places can last a lifetime. Memorable Experiences: The memories and experiences you create while running in new places can last a lifetime. Whether it's the rush of adrenaline as you conquer a challenging trail, the sense of accomplishment as you reach a new personal best, or the friendships you make along the way, these moments can become cherished memories that you will look back on with fondness and gratitude. The Dominican Republic's Santo Domingo will always rank as the most iconic running destination. From the ocean view of El Malecón to the inner city's Jardin Botanical Garden to the surreal Bajos de Haina San Cristóbal, I had a lot of choices. So why not pack your running shoes and embark on an adventure to explore the world one stride at a time?
